Next Steps

with Jesus

Together

God is at work, and we want to be in line with what God is doing. We consistently ask God two questions; “what are you doing?” And “what is the next step?” Jesus is building a Kingdom, not us, not our denomination, not our church. Jesus is building. So, our motivation is to find where Jesus is working and take our next step to join in what he is building. This must be done together. We believe that God speaks and works through people, not one person. Our understanding of our identity in Christ is necessarily corporate with individual participation.

Northside Community Church has a passion to stand in the gap for those in need by offering access to food and food services. Their partnership with the Community Wellness Collective (CWC) this last year has opened their eyes to the growing need for consistent food and food services from one location in Newberg. It all started with Northside saying yes to opening their doors as a temporary location for the emergency shelter to offer lodging and 2 meals daily while updates were being made to their permanent location. Now that renovations are complete at the YCAP night by night lodging Northside intends to continue evening meal services in partnership with the CWC, and in collaboration with Fish, YCAP, Providence, Love INC and many others in the community.

Since the end of 2023, Northside has begun fundraising efforts toward the vision of developing a community kitchen and we are nearing completion of the remodel. We have been blown away at the enormous support of local businesses like Ken and Daughters Jewelers, Carey’s Custom Woodworking, Barley and Vine, Oregon Community Funds, The Austin Foundation, Early Bird Rotary, Distinction Communication, Level Up, American Family ins., Coffee Cat, Kiwanis, Intent Coffee Roasting, Newberg Woodworks LLC, Newberg Presbyterian and many other local community groups have supported this vision.

One of our goals is to bring the Providence Milwaukie Teaching Kitchen to Newberg so we can begin offering culinary medicine to our community. We plan to get our kitchen a commercial use license and even more can be offered through our kitchen. Local food carts/chefs can rent our space for events as well as Providence being able to rent the space for their culinary medicine classes. We are so excited about how much collaboration and partnerships we have been making in efforts to offer so much more than just a kitchen to our community. Feed Newberg Community Kitchen is set to launch in the beginning of 2025. Stay tuned as we continue to develop. Visit feednewberg.com for more information.
